Bio
José Baroni is a Venezuelan composer currently residing in Lima, Perú, whose compositions span documentaries, films, television, and theatre. Violinist David Nuñez describes Baroni’s music as “part of a new generation of Venezuelan composers producing personal works of indisputable value.”
Baroni studied at the José Ángel Lamas Music School under Maestro Gerardo Gerulewicz and took private lessons with Diógenes Rivas. He further enriched his studies by attending international courses at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Spain, focusing on Computer Composition.
Baroni gained international recognition in 2011, winning First Prize in Musical Composition at the V Berlin Opera Festival for his work Oscilante, written for clarinet, violin, and cello. Between 2021 and 2022, he received several prestigious awards:

- 1st Prize in the International Composition Competition at XI Microjornadas and Contemporary Music, Argentina, 2021.
- 3rd Prize at The Time of the Guitar International Competition, Russia, 2022.
- 3rd Prize in the 5th International Composition Festival of Florence, Italy, 2022.
- 1st Prize in the International Composition Competition in Aalborg, Denmark, 2022.
Baroni’s music is a reflection of constructive thought, often exploring themes of contemplation, nature, and structure. In 2013, he was awarded Best Soundtrack at the Documentary Film Festival in Caracas for Refugios. His works have been performed by renowned artists such as cellist Pierre Strauch, pianists Dimitri Vassilakis, Jean Jacques Dünki, Kristiina Juntu, violinists David Nuñez and Sona Kochafian, guitarist Pablo Gómez, as well as ensembles Aleph, Ópera-Nova, and A Tempo.
In addition to his compositional achievements, Baroni co-founded the Kayros Contemporary Music Ensemble, which is dedicated to promoting contemporary music in Venezuela. He is currently pursuing a Master’s in Composition at Simón Bolívar University.
